Adults
All new adult patients will receive a comprehensive exam, a full set of X-rays, and possibly a dental cleaning, also known as a prophylaxis.
Comprehensive Exam
A comprehensive exam includes:
- Oral cancer screening
- Cavity detection
- Gum health evaluation, including periodontal probing
- TMJ and bite evaluation
Dental X-Rays
A full set of X-rays is needed to check for cavities, root canal problems, gum disease, and jaw pathology.
Our office will do its best to contact your insurance company to check your eligibility and coverage for this procedure. Most insurance policies cover a full set of X-rays once every three to five years.
If recent X-rays were taken by a previous dentist, you may request a clear, readable copy and provide it to our office.
Dental Cleaning
Most new adult patients receive a routine dental cleaning during their first visit. However, a routine cleaning may not be appropriate when gum problems or periodontal disease require more extensive treatment.
Dr. Wieczorek will make this determination during the examination.
Children
All children will receive a comprehensive exam. Depending on the child’s age and ability to cooperate, the first visit may also include:
- Bitewing X-rays
- A Panorex X-ray
- A child dental cleaning
- A topical fluoride application
Newborns and children up to five or six years old may not have any X-rays taken if they are too small.
Bitewing X-rays may be taken as early as five or six years old if the child can tolerate them. Panorex X-rays are taken at age eight.
A cleaning and topical fluoride application are provided for children unless they are too young to cooperate.
